You are the Light of the World

Matt 5:14-16
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

In the scripture above, Jesus revealed our duty to the world as LIGHTS. Jesus was speaking to His disciples and He is saying to you now "You are the light of the world". Light represents good, knowledge. It is used numerous times in the bible in contrast with darkness which symbolizes evil, ignorance. Now the world is full of darkness (Isa 60:2) and lack of knowledge. Our duty then is to light it up with knowledge and good.

Furthermore, the positioning of a light is a necessary factor for the intensity of its shining. Jesus said that a city "set on a hill cannot be hid" and a lamp "placed on a lampstand" gives "light to all in the house". It is important to note that Jesus has positioned us as "a city on a hill" so we cannot be hidden, and as a "lamp on a lampstand" so we can "give light to all who are in the house".

Moreover, as children of God, we have been created in Christ Jesus to do good works (Eph 2:10). God is a good God and He wants to do good through us. When Jesus received anointing from God, He went about doing good (Acts 10:38). We, having been created in Him, have also been designed to replicate the good works He did and do even more (John 14:12). But the dilemma is, you can do good works and yet, it won't be seen. If your light doesn't shine and shine brightly enough, your good works won't be seen. And when your good works are not seen, men can't give glory to God (who is the source of your good works).
God wants to receive glory for our lives, but men can't give Him glory if they don't see our good works. So, what's the solution? Let your light so shine. It's your responsibility to let your light shine. You are the light of the world, so shine! Don't just shine, "so shine", shine very bright. Jesus has positioned you to "so shine", therefore turn your light on and shine! Give light to your world. Enlighten them greatly with knowledge - the knowledge of God. Let darkness and everything it represents flee from every environment as a consequence of your presence! That's why you are there. And as you do, men will see you good works and give glory to your Father. Amen.
