God wants you to look to Jesus (1)
Num 21:8 (NKJV)
And the Lord
said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and
it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh
upon it, shall live
A familiar and recurring theme of the Israelite's long and arduous journey to the promised land was their murmuring about, well, just about everything. Whenever they had a little challenge, they murmured. It was like the norm. On one of the numerous occasions where they resulted to this annoyingly unbearable act (just imagine over a million people murmuring, poor Moses), God sent serpents to bite them and many died. Eventually they realized their mistake, as they always did, and asked Moses to pray for them and Moses obliged them, as he always did. Many times in the past (even in Egypt), when God sent a plague, after Moses prayed, we saw that God removed the plague. Surprisingly, this time, God didn't remove the plague. Instead, He did something better. He told them to change their perception, their focus. He gave them a picture of the cross, a shadow of Jesus crucified, and practically said, 'in the midst of your problem, look to Jesus and you'll live'. He is still saying this today! The fiery serpent that was set on a pole was a picture of Jesus on the cross. When those that were bitten by the snake looked at the serpent on the pole, they lived.
Friends, God wants us to look to the cross and everything it represents. He wants us to look to Jesus and what He has done. He wants us to look to His sacrifice for us; to His great love for us; His forgiveness, compassion, mercies, grace. He wants us to focus on the fact that we've been made righteous; that we have life abundantly; that we've been healed; that we are rich, successful, prosperous. Again I say, God wants us to look to Jesus! This cannot be overstated nor overemphasized. God truly wants us to depend on Jesus, to trust Him, for in Him is everything we need.
Sometimes, we go through some challenges because we have our attention set on the wrong things and could do with a redirection. For many, their focus probably is on anything else other than God. It could be money, women, their job, etc and inevitably they run into problems. But Jesus really should be our focus. If Jesus is all we think about, look to, focus on, friends, it's more than enough.
Beloved, it's God's desire for you to look to Jesus. I can assure you that you'll find it a thoroughly enjoyable experience when you do. God bless you!
