God wants you to look to Jesus (2)

Matt. 14:28-31a (NKJV)
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was
boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him...

The story of Peter walking on water is another beautiful demonstration of the importance of looking unto Jesus. Peter was walking comfortably on water to Jesus because his gaze was on Jesus. Unfortunately, he didn't know that was the secret. He had to learn the hard way that looking unto Jesus is the ONLY way to keep afloat and survive the boisterous storms of life. I mean, it would have been a BIG scare for him that day to be drowning, but I am convinced without a skerrick of doubt that he got the message; it was crystal to him thereafter that looking unto Jesus guarantees your survival and success even in the midst of difficult or impossible situations or even in the face of death.

When Peter had his eyes fixed on Jesus in his quest to go meet Him, he could do something absolutely supernatural by every standard. But the moment he looked at the wind which represented his circumstance, he made a sharp and instant decline to the natural at nearly the cost of his life. When you focus on Jesus, you are able to lead a supernatural life. However, when you focus your attention on your issues, you'll get consumed by it. Thank God Peter realized his mistake and asked Jesus for help and of course he got it. When you look to Jesus, you look to your source and you receive solutions for your issues. However, we really don't need to get into problems before we learn to look to Jesus. God wants us to look to Jesus always! Scriptures says "looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith" (Heb 12:2). "Looking unto Jesus" should be our way of life, there's really no better way to live.

Friends, it is important to note that, when Peter had his attention on Jesus, he could do what Jesus was doing. Likewise, when we look to Jesus, we can do what He did and truly be like Him. Remember we were made in His image and likeness and have been given His life, as such, He is our 'manual', as it were, to being like Him and living His life. So, use the 'manual', look unto Jesus. God bless you!
