Put off the old man

Ephesians 4:22‭-‬24 (NKJV)
that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

You may have been born into this world a newborn baby, nevertheless, you were born an "old man". If you were born of a woman, conceived sexually or by artificial insemination, whether you were born by vaginal delivery or caesarean section, whether you experienced uterine gestation or not, you are or were once an "old man". This is a consequence of the sin of Adam. The bible says in Romans 5:19 (NKJV) "For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous." So, you were made an old man not by anything you did wrong but by what Adam did wrong. However, you don't have to remain an "old man" all your life. You definitely can do something about that.

You may be wondering by now, who is an old man? It is very simple. The "old man" is the man that has not experienced salvation. He has not been recreated in Christ Jesus. He still has the adamic nature of sin. He has not repented of his sins and received the forgiveness of sins. He is an unbeliever. The "old man" is born of the flesh (John 3:6) and is subject to the flesh. He is lustful, corrupt, rebellious to the ways of God, conformed to the world and subject to the powers of darkness. Consequently, the "old man" is ill-fated. He is doomed and condemned to die (Rom 3:23). He has a self-destruct time-bomb that is activated the very day he is born, and so it is only a matter of time before he is destroyed. Only salvation can deactivate it. Hence, God ordained that at some point in our lives (and the earlier the better), we will experience rebirth or recreation in Christ Jesus denotative for salvation. He desires that we put off the "old man" and put on the "new man".

The "old man" is only good for putting off. He is useful for absolutely nothing, so why continue to put him on? Put him off and put on the "new man" who is created in the image and likeness of God, in true righteousness and holiness. Receive grace to put off the "old man" and put on the "new man" in Jesus' name, amen. God bless you.
