Put on the new man
Ephesians 4:22-24 (NKJV)
that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
In the previous post put off the old man, we were told that the "old man" is only good for putting off because he is doomed and condemned to die as a consequence of sin (Rom 3:23). This is the reason why we must replace him with the "new man".
Who is the new man? He is simply the one who is saved. Obviously, the "new man" is not born through vaginal delivery or anything of such; you don't need to enter a second time into your mother's womb to be reborn a "new man" as Jesus assured Nicodemus (John 3:4-6). The "new man" is born when the "old man" believes in what Jesus has done and then experiences salvation. When the "old man" believes in his heart and then confesses his belief in the sacrifice of Jesus with his mouth, he becomes reborn or recreated in Christ Jesus. He effectively partakes in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, and then receives the life of God into him. According to 2 Cor 5:17, he becomes an entirely new creature that never existed before, his past becomes history, and everything is made new.
It is important to note that our rebirth is not a function of anything we do or did. Our recreation in Christ Jesus is a product of God's grace, not our works (Eph 2:9). God did all the work, paid the price and delivered salvation to us as a gift of grace. It is entirely God's workmanship that secured our rebirth (Eph 2:10). The only requirement to experience the new birth or recreation in Christ Jesus is faith and this faith is a gift from God also (Eph 2:8). When we hear the word of God, we receive faith (Rom 10:17) by which we access the grace of God for our salvation and become a "new man", seated in and complete in Christ, the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, the redeemed of the Lord, more than conquerors, delivered from the power of darkness. You also receive eternal life or the more-abundant life .
Finally, please note that the "new man" is designed to require regular renewal (Col 3:10) just like man is designed to require regular bath. The "new man" needs constant and continuous renewal. The instrument designed for such is the knowledge of God's word. You need to regularly spend time with Jesus by reading His word. So, once you experience the new birth, you need to immediately employ the instrument of the knowledge of God to constantly renew yourself and experience spiritual growth. God bless you.
